How the model works

Background

Every module in HRC Designer rests on one idea: describe each material by a few straight lines, impose the strain at the tension face of the section, and solve the section in closed form. This section gives the minimum needed to use the software with confidence. The derivations are in the papers.

Strain-based and crack-width based models

Two families of tests, two forms of the same model. Left: the unnotched beam (ASTM C1609) with a strain-based tension law and multiple cracking. Right: the notched beam (EN 14651) with a crack-width based tension law and a single crack. Both are solved with the same section equilibrium.
